SOUTHEAST TOWNSHIP & PATTERSON TOWNSHIP, NY: The townships of Southeast and Patterson are charming, family oriented communities located in Putnam County, approximately 50 miles north of New York City near the Connecticut state line. Putnam County is made up of six townships - Carmel, Kent, Patterson, Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Southeast. The Village of Brewster is located within Southeast Township in the southern portion of the county and is the largest village within the township. Patterson is located in the northeast corner of the county. Putnam County, named for Revolutionary War General Israel Putnam, is bounded by Connecticut, Westchester County, Dutchess County and the scenic Hudson River. Putnam County is an area rich in colonial history and favored with an abundance of natural resources. Hiking and biking are popular past times in the county thanks to the many picturesque lakes, ponds and waterways. Two mountain bike trails are located in Fahnestock Park - the 10-mile Peekskill Hollow Road trail and the five-mile Stow Road loop. The annual “Tour de Putnam” is a day of exciting bike tours through the scenic countryside with planned stops at local historic sites and landmarks. Other area attractions include the old Town Hall, the Southeast Museum and the Old Southeast Church. Each community offers a myriad of housing styles and prices from which to choose.
